  • See 50 bands. I have tickets to 47 so far and only a few are repeats.
Which shows or is that too many to list?

A festival like this one would knock out a lot of them. https://www.shakykneesfestival.com/ Hoping to get there.

I'm moving back east. Sold house in CO, and currently floating in various spots. For the next 7 weeks or so, not going to be anywhere close to a ranked peak.

Want 100 unique new ranked peaks, but am slightly behind schedule at 18 atm and will get further behind.
Hoping to get 3 new state highpoints or 3 P5Ks in. 3 new state hps would be easy - Cheaha in AL, Brasstown Bald in GA, and Sassafras in SC. But still have 41 P5Ks to go, so a trip back west to knock some out would be great!
6 pull-ups and 8 chin-ups. I can almost do a pull-up and almost 2 chin-ups. But I gotta both stop being a fat ass and get stronger simultaneously.

I'm at 113 days in a row on the NYT crossword, but one day (around day 70) I looked up some clues when I was stumped, so want to push that to 200 so 100 of those are completely clean from looking up anything.

New MLS and MLB stadiums - at least 2!

That festival looks good! I'm seeing *one* of those bands (Deftones), but I have to spread out my concerts throughout the year or I suffer from withdrawal. Also, I need more metal!

My list just grew to 49 (I added Wu-Tang Clan and Run the Jewels for the 4th of July) and I *may* add Breaking Benjamin plus Three Days Grace (even though I just saw them a few weeks ago!) and Return to Dust. Just waiting for the tickets to go on sale and check out the prices.

Here's my list so far: Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Sevendust, Papa Roach, Rise Against, Underoath, Seether, Mammoth, Nonpoint, Cold, September Mourning, University Drive, Sleep Theory, Nevertel, Oxymorrons, Stray View, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Ice Nine Kills, Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, Powerman 5000, (hed) PE, Priest, The Great Alone, Wu-Tang Clan, Run the Jewels, Beck, Ghost, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Slightly Stoopid, Iration, Collie Buddz, Little Stranger, Nine Inch Nails, Boys Noize, Linkin Park, Jean Dawson, Deftones, IDLES, The Barbarians of California, Chevelle, Asking Alexandria, Dead Poets Society, Bring Me the Horizon, Motionless in White, The Plot in You, Amira Elfeky, and Sleep Token.

The Ultras are fun... I'm at (checks LoJ profile) 13 of those and 14 state highpoints. I don't expect to finish them all (or even make any progress on them, at least not this year) but I'm cool with that.

Those are some great goals! Variety, as they say, is the spicy-stuff-that-keeps-crap-from-getting-boring of life. Have fun out there chasing the peaks, chasing the tunes, and chasing all that other stuff. You're still doing more stuff (versus collecting more stuff) than 99.99 percent of the world, I bet!

That's one heckuva list! Amazing they're all touring in the same year. IDLES and King Gizzard are probably most in my wheelhouse, right now, of those you mention right now. Interested to hear which shows you enjoy best.

Saw Wand in a dive bar in Denver last month. It was pretty amazing. Cory Hanson is one helluva guitarist. One example with Ty Segall (in Denver 2x this year)

My next show is "Momma" in Raleigh, NC.

I never know till I go, but I'm most looking forward to Pantera, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, and Sleep Token. Also pretty jazzed to see Cold (I've seen them three times before, I played their CD "13 Ways to Bleed On Stage" nonstop on two trips to California to do Whitney and Russell, and they're performing the whole thing, so that's gonna be cool!), Nonpoint (saw them at Ozzfest 2001), Seether (Ozzfest 2002), Metallica and Limp Bizkit (How have I never seen these bands?), and - just 'cause they do some songs I really, really like - Powerman 5000, (hed) PE, Linkin Park (saw them at Ozzfest), Chevelle, and Breaking Benjamin. Plus, Three Days Grace - again! I went to see Disturbed in February and came away a Three Days Grace fan. They're amazing live. Some bands know how to bring it with an audience.

That's really pretty stuff! I guess we're all wired differently. I like loud stuff. Loud and hard. It just makes me so happy.

Back to peak goals. I also want to put a bigger dent in some of my ranked county summits. Here's where I am with the ones I'm looking at right now:

Fremont (I have 63 of 167 ranked peaks done - so lots left to do here, but good choices when there's too much snow everywhere else)
Douglas (8 of 30 ranked - close by, but some private property issues here)
Custer (I have 74 of 100 ranked peaks - some good 12er and 13er potential)
Alamosa (I have 5 of 10 ranked)
Park (I have 114 of 229 ranked - lots here to do...)
Pueblo (I have 5 of 10 ranked - like Fremont, lost of scrub oak, but best to do before it gets too hot)

Lots of options!

At least on the east coast you don't have to drive a gazillion miles to get to other states. You could start looking at county highpoints, you know (not necessarily ranked summits, but the highest summits in each county of each state - I think you know all about that). There's a group for that.

Re: 2025 Goals

Post by Scott P »

The year is 1/3 over and I hope everyone is doing well. April was really good to me. I started out way behind on most goals and now I am ahead or on target for several of them and less behind than I was for most of the remaining ones. I didn't do anything super impressive, but I did get some things that were on my list for a long time, such as climbing Mt. Holmes in the Henry Mountains (my last of the major peaks there). I'm still behind on peak ascents, but not on new ascents, so I'm happy with that.

I could really use some partners for some easy technical stuff if anyone is interested.

Generic Goals for 2025

As of April 30:

Total Hiking, Climbing, and Canyoneering Days = 350 - Currently at 113 and I am behind schedule by a little, but only two days and should catch up in May.
Total Days Hiking, Climbing, Canyoneering, and Biking Days = 360 - Currently at 113 and I am behind schedule, but should catch up in May.
Summits Climbed = 200 - Currently at 58 and I am behind schedule.
New Summits Climbed = 60 - Currently at 21 and I am ahead schedule.
States to Climb Summits in = 6 - Currently at 3 (Utah, Arizona, and Colorado) so I'm on schedule so far.
Countries to Climb Summits in = 5. Currently at 4 (United States, DR Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda). I'm on schedule, but I don't think I'll visit any more this year.
Rock Towers/Technical Buttes = 10 - Currently at 4 and I am a little ahead of schedule.
Technical Rock or Ice Routes = 30 - Currently at 12 and I am ahead of schedule.
Gym Climbing Days = 30 - Currently at 2 and I am behind schedule.
Technical Canyons = 30 - Currently at 8 and I am very slightly behind schedule.
Biking Days = 30 - Currently at 1 and I am way behind schedule.

PS, I'm working in Granby the next few months? Is anyone around there who would like to do some after work climbs?
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

1) 1 day climb and ski of Rainier Success! Ended up climbing and skiing DC, which honestly had some pretty fun turns. Just over 13hrs RT
2) Finish centennials (8 left, all in SJs)
3) 100+ unique ranked peaks (can be repeats from previous years)
Just ahead of last year so on track
4) Learn to backflip on skis
Didn't end up happening :(
Did do my first 360s though. Maybe this winter before new years

5) 12+ 13er/14er ski descents
In a roughly reverse chronological order: Rainier - DC, Arkansas- Moonshine, Tweto - N face, Torreys - DD, Kelso- North Couloir, Parnassus - Drainpipe, Pikes - Y Right Var, Hagar - SE Face, Citadel - Snoopy's Collar, Guyot - Swan Dive & NW slopes, La Plata - N Face, London - The Wave, Mosquito - E Face, Elbert - Box Creek Couloirs, James - S ridge in Winter (horrible ski)
Probably? Calling it for the season, excited for light packs and running shoes now

6) Ski or climb a handful of routes with no available beta
Didn't end up skiing anything like this, it'll have to wait for summer I guess
