In New England Mt. Katahdin deserves mention.
Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.

I by far, don't know all the mountains in the US and, know that there are some amazing ones.
My quickly put together list:

-Mount McKinley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Denal ... Kinley.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
-Rainier
-Mt Hood
-Capitol Pk.
-Grand Tetons
-Mt Whitney
-Longs Peak

I know that there are many more worth mention here but, drawing blanks
My duty, as a human, is not to take, but, to give!

I must add Triple-Divide Peak in Glacier N.P. The Great Divide and the Laurentian Divide meet at the summit of the peak, and all water that falls at this point can flow to the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans.

Got to drink a lot of beer to take advantage of that divide.

I agree! Gannett and Granite need to be on the list. It's really hard to narrow this down to just ten. I think I'll put together a list of the "Top 10 I Have Done" and the "Top 10 I Haven't Done." That might be a little easier...

For starters...
Have done: Whitney, Russell, Rainier, Gannett, Longs.
Haven't done: Hood, Shasta, Granite, Washington, Grand Teton.

Might get some other ideas from the Ultra-prominence Peaks of the 48 States page on SummitPost.

There are more than 10 without question, but a few that come to mind that I have climbed and are very esthetic are:

Rainier
Capitol
Vestal
The Titan
Castleton Tower
El Capitan
The Bells
Longs (Diamond)
Hood
Grand Teton
Pigeon
Jagged
Jefferson
Dallas
Ancient Art
The Kingfisher
Angels Landing
Moonlight Buttress

I have yet to hike/climb in the highcountry of California, but I can't wait to start exploring next year.
The Dalai Lama when asked what surprised him most about humanity:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

"Guadalupe Peak. For no reason other than that stubborn pride..."
I tend to agree, but its a pride thing because that is our only mountain. :D
