Re: Fall Colors 2017
Does anyone have an idea as to whether the aspens above Bear Lake at RMNP are typically still in good color on Sept 24? I was there several years ago on Sept 28 and they were all bare (there had been a lot of wind a few days earlier). I realize that it varies from year to year but am curious what is the typical peak week for their best color.

Estes Park would be in the pink, so 9/18-29 should be good stuff!

definitely varies from year to year. he is a picture i took above bear lake last year on Sept 17. leaves around bear lake were not at peak yet. a bit lower down by bierstadt lake they were still lots of greens. the RMNP bookface page generally posts pictures and is a good place to check out.TaylorRiverGuy wrote:Does anyone have an idea as to whether the aspens above Bear Lake at RMNP are typically still in good color on Sept 24? Mosquito range is turning nicely. Probably peak in a week.

Looking very nice.

Re: Fall Colors 2017
I have a question about the map posted near the top of this page, shown by 9News every year.
I'm wondering from where they get that information, as their dates range about a month in total from the north to the south of the state. Now, if you extrapolated that all the way up to Canada, you'd probably get a map that shows aspen (or larch) trees changing in July. Perhaps the lowering in elevation of the mountains as you head farther north balances out the increase in latitude?

From Kenosha Pass today. Still green leaves, but quite a few are changing. I'd think good through at least next week. The leaves on the mountain east of the pass have changed on top, but down the slope a little bit they are really washed out and dull, don't know if they do that before changing or this year just won't be very good.

That's a great shot of the Abyss lake area !
I was on Kenosha (just the road) on Sunday and the crowds were insane. Bumper to Bumper traffic on 285 all the way back to town.
Many of the tree's colors appeared washed-out to me in the area.

Re: Fall Colors 2017
Some pics of my hike on the Grand Mesa today. Colors are starting to come in. If the wind does not blow the leaves away, and today was very very windy up there. Next week will be looking pretty awesome.
