When I went 12 years ago they let us "test out" of the two day instruction. We just had to go out with a guide for a few hours and demonstrate proficiency with ropes, knots and rappelling. After that the guide just took us to some cool rock climbing spots and we went climbing all afternoon. We went with Exum and were very pleased. If you are doing the Grand know that the Exum guides own the only hut that is up on the lower saddle. The JHMG clients were stuck in an inferior spot lower down than us and were sleeping in tents. That saddle is a pretty awesome place to spend the night!triyoda wrote:seano wrote:Do this if you insist upon being guided, but it's 6500 feet of uphill hiking followed by a bit of low 5th class scrambling. You might also consider working up to it, then doing it yourselves. You will probably learn almost nothing doing it guided.Koy wrote:Whoever is cheaper (likely JHMG if I had to guess)
Exum requires two full days of rock climbing school before they will take you on a Grand Teton summit climb. I don't think I learned "almost nothing" in the two days of instruction I had with them.
Exum Mountain Guides or Jackson Hole Mountain Guides for Grand Teton?
