Not positive Dave but I don't think so.

Re: PSA: Keep CO Wild Parks Pass
Yes, as has been stated, on the registration paperwork it clearly shows one price for the registration with the pass and another for the price without the pass.
I renewed online and there it was extremely clear and easy to see that you can click on one or the other to choose whether or not to add the state park pass. Nothing sneaky about it. Very obvious and straightforward.
If you elect to get the pass it shows up as a stamp printed onto your vehicle registration card.
Thanks for the various state park recommendations!

not valid for SWA:
What outdoor activities are included with the Keep Colorado Wild Pass?
The pass provides car, bike and foot entry into all Colorado state parks. To find a Colorado state parks map, use the CPW State Park Finder Tool. This pass does not currently grant access to federal recreation fee areas, state wildlife areas or state trust lands.

Re: PSA: Keep CO Wild Parks Pass
$29 is a sweet deal IMO. I go to Golden Gate and Eldo at least a few times a year. Those parks are beautiful but see plenty of visits, especially Eldo. Happy to chip in to pay worker salaries, fund trash pick up, trail maintenance, etc. Plus money for SAR, CAIC, and/or wildlife programs if enough people buy the pass.
I'll spend $29 on much dumber stuff this year, guaranteed.

Re: PSA: Keep CO Wild Parks Pass
I think you are bit off with your numbers, which might make your assertion of needing a 65% opt in rate a bit off. I've seen that number of registered vehicles in Colorado is closer to 5 million. But that likely includes business, muli-car families, and recreation vehicles. I think a better number to look at is number of households. Based an US census numbers, there are 2.2 million households in Colorado. Assuming you need at least 1 car per household opt in (and I think you can make a reasonable assumption that there is on average at least 1 car per household), you need 56% of households to opt in order to raise $36 million.Arndorfer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:35 pm To raise $36 million, 1.25 million cars would have to participate - with fewer than 2 million registered vehicles in Colorado and many of those multicar families, it seems unlikely that 65% of plate renewals will opt into this pass.
In my opinion, it would be much better to donate money directly to S&R and CAIC rather than giving Colorado bureaucrats somewhere between 100 and 90% of your money.
Now I believe I read somewhere during the passage of this bill, that the working assumption is they were expecting a 60% opt in rate.
I think that it is likely that 50% of households will opt in.
For me it is a no brainer. I enjoy snowshoeing in Golden Gate park in the winter or running the trails in the fall. I have a SUP board, which I love to use on a mountain lake after a hike, but there is limited free access in the front range. Now I can hit up any number of front range lakes (Boyd, Barr, Chatfield, Cherry Creek).
As for your final opinion of better to donate directly to SAR, you might be right. I do that anyway, but am hopeful this will add to that.

Numbers for the first year of the Keep CO Wild Pass are out. The pass generated almost $41 million vs an expected $36 million and the $23 million that the 'traditional' sticker pass generated in 2020.
Looks like a win for users, our parks, SAR teams, and CAIC!
