This ranks up there with "how do I tie my pants so they don't fall down"? Hilarious.

DON"T use the surgeon knot unless you want to mess around with untying the knot later. Just double knot it the usual way. I have nylon laces and it works 99% of the time. Just pull laces tight both times. That or get Velcro tabs.

but does it work on sandals, too..?
Those are only for people who have liberated themselves from the world of knot-tying and transcended the limitations of the fearful mortals who value such fleeting things as safety and life over fashion!

I've been waiting for mountaineering boots with Velcro closures but no such luck yet...never know maybe I ask Santa.

FYI, the surgeons knot is every bit as easy to untie as it is to tie but holds remarkably well. I tried the second wrap around the loop mentioned in the video but to me that seemed to make it worse (maybe wasn't doing it right...).

We might need someone with a PhD in shoe-ology to settle the dispute of how best to tie your shoes...

Shoelaces? Pffff. Go barefoot or go home. Ski boots in winter, but only if you’re enough of a weenie to be worried about piddling concerns like frostbite.

Insert key fob guidelines, and there may be answer somewhere in that. Maybe??

My crew was sharing a campsite in glacier with a group of local ladies who were planning an off trail ascent of some fabulous peak that was gonna involve a dozen miles of bushwacking and thousand feet of climbing. Needless to say, my humble crew was impressed by their prep and plans. After dinner, we randomly started chatting about stuff and one of them casually showed us what daway calls the surgeon knot. That s**t changed our lives. This was 25 years ago and we still talk about how we learned to tie our shoes from that rowdy group of mountaineers.
