How do you guys think the colors will be looking around mid to late next week (27-29) in the Collegiates? The map at the top indicates it would be within the range of good colors, but obviously on the ground info is better.

Thanks!

Dwoodward, that's an ideal time to go. You're certain to see lots of color.

Herman Gulch Trail doesn't have a lot of aspens, but there is a nice patch about 1/2 mile up the trail. This pic is from yesterday:

Here's what the road up to Engineer Pass (Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre) looked like for color this past week. Pretty close to prime, maybe another week or so!

[quote=I was on Kenosha (just the road) on Sunday and the crowds were insane. Bumper to Bumper traffic on 285 all the way back to town.
Many of the tree's colors appeared washed-out to me in the area.[/quote]

Traffic was already pretty busy this afternoon on 285 around Kenosha and even west. And other than a few spots the aspens in that area looked very washed out. I would agree that they are not impressive this year there.

Got these pics from our trip to West Willow Creek Sept. 20th and 21st. One day made a big difference!

Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

I just found something on Caltopo that might be cool for others looking to plan fall hikes, and trying to remember if/where a given trail goes thru an Aspen stand. One of the map baselayers is a "False Color IR" satellite image. When viewing in this layer, Aspens and Pine trees are different colors so they stick out more than just a standard satellite view!

Does anyone have a report from this weekend at RMNP? Am particularly interested to know if there are any leaves remaining in the Bear Lake area.

Kebler Pass still needs a little while, for anyone planning on going there this year. I was surprised how green everything still was (as of yesterday, the 23rd).

Steamboat is probably about a week away from being prime.
