I have a strong feeling BlastFest '07 could be a fictionary (is that a word?) event that I may be using in sentences for several months, however, I certainly hope it happens!

fleetmack,

I'd definitely be down for coming down to your buddy's parents B&B near Salida for a blastfest next year. Salida would make a good rendezvous point for most of us, I bet.

Is this B&B far enough away from Salida and is there sufficient "buffer" land for an all day blastfest without triggering mobilization of the National Guard? (I'd hate for out of shape Chaffee County deputies armed with wheelguns to crash our party)...

I meant bouncing around on talus with a fully loaded and ready handgun strapped to your chest or hip. And all I'm saying is there are extremely few people that wouldn't be a threat to others, and that should be carrying in the backcountry. And there are only 1 or 2 people from 1991 to 2003 that would've been able to stop their own attack. Cats think bike riders are prey bc of their motion and hunched position- if you think you could yank a pistol and shoot a pouncing cat while riding a bike, you belong in the circus. I sure hope you're a good shot too, if in the more rare than lightning event you do have to shoot a lion away from your hiking partner. Better practice 3 hours a night on some super high speed moving targets.

FlatLander left out some details on his story- actually a kid went into his mom's bedroom closet in the trailer and pulled out her boyfriend's .22 LR to show his 2 friends. It was loaded and he shot his 1 friend by accident. According to her it'd been there for years and he'd never touched it.
Even though it happened indoors, this story does bring up a good statistical point. Go look up how many accidental hunting shootings occured from 1991-2003, or even better yet how many lightning strikes in that time period. That'll show you what's more dangerous between cats and lightning or carrying a loaded weapon. I can also say, if I ever have to jump behind a tree because of some moron flingin lead, I'm gonna pistol whip the SOB to death with his own gun when he starts reloading.

Yes --- http://www.bonanzainnbbrv.com/

there's the link, I took several of the photos on the 4-wheeling page. as you can see by the # of 4-wheelers we usually bring out there, it can accomodate several people. i will have to talk to my buddy though, as we shoot a shitload of guns there, i'd have to see if that's just because we're family or if they let anyone shoot there ... i have no idea what to expect, but i will ask.
