Considering I do most of them solo...

Trapdoor rocks/snow. Would not be fun to break a tibia/fibula at high elevation. Pretty much accounts for the size of my pack...

When I am hiking, especially when alone, I think that every sound I hear is a mountain lion or bear.

Maybe I am lucky not to hear such a sound because of my deafness.

Not sure if you are serious or not - but either way, you gave me a smile this morning. And something to look forward to!

Has anyone mentioned parking? My fear is not able to find parking when I arrive at a trailhead. It really keeps me up all night... so sometimes I start driving at 1 am.

My car not starting up when I get back to it, cold, tired and hungry after a long day.

Plus falling asleep on the drive back....sometimes I am just exhausted after getting up early, hiking/climbing, not eating a ton, etc....around 3pm I fear falling asleep at the wheel.

Especially at dawn or dusk. I remember packing into Kilpacker Basin this past summer around sunset and checking behind me every 30 seconds to make sure a mountain lion wasn't stalking me. I know the stats on mountain lion attacks in CO mean that it's nearly impossible, but it still crosses my mind.

My biggest fear is losing my car keys somehow (falling out of my pack...?) during a trip.

Be assured that anyone who finds Henry the Camry at the trailhead can also find the keys to said Camry nearby, if anyone bothers to look. It's not for weight consideration that I never carry keys into the back country.

Oh, and yeah the whole falling asleep at the wheel thing... brutal, and a shared concern.

That was a big worry of mine, too. I have since put a spare key in my pack in an internal zippered pocket and keep my regular keys in a zippered pocket in my pants. Guess I'm in big trouble if I lose both my pack and my pants.... OK - let's not go there... :)

I actually dropped my keys going from Democrat to Cameron. I wasn't really treating that trip as a serious climb and I was wearing some old pants and my back pocket had a small hole in it (from a glissade) that after a few hours turned into a bigger hole. Lucky for me, I didn't goto Bross and they were laying in the middle of the trail at 14000' between Cameron and Democrat on the way back.

Idiot me thought, someone lost their keys, before realizing it was me. Now I'm really careful with the keys.
