way back in the day my family went to mesa verde - before everything was guided tour - so that was pretty cool. I'd so rather get to check stuff out without a guide!

There's an old trail up there (it can be seen from the valley floor if you look carefully), but it has been closed for many years. One of the sundagger slabs shifted several years ago and it has been closed ever since.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Acoma is a bit far south to be considered Four Corners, so maybe "The Upcoming Non-Specific Idea That Didn't Make the Cut in Northern-ish New Mexico But Not the Four Corners Area" thread.greenonion wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 1:54 pm

Re: Thread ideas that didn't make the cut
i did actually specify "four corners plus" - to indicate a perimeter broader than just 4 corners -- for those keeping score at home

recently clearing out lots of old crap from my folks' basement - but keeping an eye out for interesting

I'm having a hard enough time getting to the western half of CO right now - so this is sort of like a fairy tale to me - but dammit all people - me likey

Proposal.
Try to divert a good chunk of the traffic headed to quandary
and instead tell them to hit up Buckskin!
but from the length of the whole ridge too. start from as far east as the property lines allow.

Re: Thread ideas that didn't make the cut
so is there a reason why the traffic headed past bierstadt is directed into the heart of the willows?
the north side of the drainage is much more managable.
you have to cross the 'Nam rice paddies to get there - but i'll take that over willows any day.
obviously can't do that too early in year - but the difference is stark

Re: Thread ideas that didn't make the cut
also i think we may need to actually have a "Geologic Oddities" thread?
i have this piece of gneiss i picked up from the flanks of Pacific last year
hard to describe - it is a "rainbow on a postcard" that is also weirdly three dimensional too.
i also have two shockingly cool pieces of petrified wood found in our own front range community
also found just last year.
but i also recall a piece of shale i found in hellgate canyon outside missoula mt -it was a perfectly equilateral triangle. like perfectly. that's why it stood out amongst the rubble.
