My apologies for hit and miss stats. Travelling, compounded by a hurricane, challenged this dinosaur. Here are my estimates of distance/elevation. Times are based on Andrea's Garmin.

Question: Looking at the Lake Como portion of data. Did they have someone 4wd them up the road as close as possible to the 3,000 feet mark below the summits??
Yes, it was mentioned in this post earlier in the thread:

Still hitting splits for LB, some clouds rolled in on the traverse. Unfortunately, on the gash traverse a rock fell as scraped up Andrea’s leg which slowed them down a bit. Running a bit behind now as a result but happy for a little rest and still in good spirits for a big day ahead.

Yeah actually heading up lake Como, for the first time ever we were able to catch a ride past jaws 1. Jaws 1 is approx 10,500. Jon was so amazing it didn’t even slow him down, he did scrape the bottom a bit. He then continued up until about Jaws 2. Then unfortunately there was a bit of a traffic jam as two slower off road vehicles were using spotters to navigate the obstacles. So at that point we got out and started hiking, still a little below the 11,000 foot mark.

Still the drive time up that road was something like 25 minutes - Pretty amazing work there for Jon.

Yes, amazing. Thanks for that. Funny how while looking over the entire route, my brain went immediately to the Lake Como road. lol

justiner wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 5:04 pm Andrew, that seems pretty clear. And since you worked as a pair from start to finish (which I agree is allowed according to Cavedog rules for group challenges), any future solo female record has to now better the coed record? Any female solo challenger would have to go by the, "no muling 3000'" rule but alone -- which would be a pretty major disadvantage as they wouldn't have essentially a teammate the whole way -- or go for the co-ed record, and virtually have the solo female record too. That to me doesn't seem equivalent. If we go by that, the co-ed record is now the female record as well for all intents and purposes.

It gets all hairy since working as a team isn't a different category for most FKTs on the site as it is for CaveDog's rules. Many of my own unsupported FKTs were bettered by teams of two which is very different for going at it alone.
This makes good sense. Completely agree

Congratulations Andrew & Andrea. This is so far beyond what us mere mortals consider a big climb of the type we only have so many in our lives - like higher elevations, glaciers, multiple days packing into a mountain, packing extra mountain gear, longer mileage and elevation days, etc. ....Pushing that many days & nights with lack of sleep while traveling routes of difficulty beyond what one has to do to climb all the fourteeners. To complete what you have travelled in one go, even without a time record, and still be mobile would be amazing. Setting this record - WOW!

I hear you. Your long routes out by yourself are truly inspiring!

I’ve done unsupported, self-supported, supported, singles, coed…many categories. Each has its own challenges and advantages. It is hard to compare them apples to apples. And FKT rules don’t capture the rules specific to 14er records at all. They simply have a supported category, that says nothing about all the 3000 foot rules grandfathered in by cave dog.

I think I’m one of the few people who truly appreciates the different challenges from all the different styles. I don’t believe solo is always the hardest. When you are by yourself it’s really nice that you only have to worry about yourself. You only have to worry about your own legs, whether you yourself are tired, safe, etc. when you are a pair you have much more than yourself to worry about. Now you are responsible for your partner, and you can only go the speed of the slowest person. But you do have someone to talk to when you are tired and that is nice.

Anyway for the 14er record specifically, by FKT rules, Andrea would be considered by default a “supported female”. So any future supported female attempts would want to take aim at our coed time.

Sorry to bring this thread back up! but we wanted to let you know we will be having a presentation… it’s basically going to be a talk on how we survived this thing with only 5 weeks of real training. Our hardest moments with some highs in between. If you are interested it will be

Sunday Sept 15th at 14er brewing Co in Denver
from 5-7

hosted by Arc’teryx they will have a registration (it’s free) but there’s talk of them paying for the first 100 beers & some raffle? I probably won’t post again on this thread but our instagram is @a2summit you can follow us there for more updates. If you want I can bring this thread to life again a week before as a reminder…
you can come early and stay late we will be there!

Please do! I’m sure I’m not the only one with what feels like a million things going on this summer who doesn’t want this to get lost in the rush.
