Don't forget Higher, Further and Roadless. I love these because he climbs the mountains instead of getting a ride up in a helicoptor.

Yup. TOTSM may be my all-time favorite movie. The middle hour or so in particular (when they're up in the mountains looking for gold) is just cinematic perfection IMO.crestone14ers wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 5:49 amTwo of the greatest American cinema ever created! John Huston and George Stevens at their best. The cinematography is exquisite in both, screenwriting, acting, production… phenomenal films!

The Rest of Everest was originally a documentary and then one of the makers released about 30 episodes, 45 minutes long each... documenting their expedition. Im sure they are around still someplace.

Netflix has a new mini-documentary series called Pepsi, Where's My Jet?
it's about a kid who tries to win a fighter jet in a Pepsi promotion.
and strangely, there's a mountaineering connection that plays through the series.

how are people feeling about Summit Fever?
I always rooted for Ryan Phillippe - so good to see him doing something.
but I will withhold judgment for just a sec here.
___
also hearing chatter re: Netflix doc “Race to the summit" ?

Love the Poconos in "The Deer Hunter" - I had no idea those Pennsylvania mountains were so impressive.

And who could forget "Copper Mountain" with Jim Carrey?

Read through the whole thread and surprised not one mention of True Grit. A nod to the beautiful San Juan scenery in that classic.

I was just going to say: "True Grit".
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

The original True Grit with the San Juans in autumn will always be my favorite. There’s even an excellent site with locations of almost every scene. The scenes with Robert Duvall holed up in the cabin are obviously in a different range (Sierras).

And how about those hunting scenes in the Deer Hunter. Glaciers in Pennsylvania?
