Rush
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Metallica
Eagles

Honorable mentions are too numerous to list them all, and my leanings have varied over the years and/or depending on mood, but have included bands like AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction, Jethro Tull, early U2, and plenty of flashes in the pan ranging anywhere from prog rock to psychedelia to industrial to heavy metal to reggae to folk (if I'm feeling really nostalgic and mellow) 8)

My top 5 wouldn't differ much from most other Classic Rock fans, so how about Top 5 who are still performing?
I've seen these 5 recently and they were all great:

Cheap Trick
Styx
Blue Oyster Cult
Night Ranger
Peter Frampton

Wish I could include Van Halen on the list, but Diamond Dave's Red Rocks performance just didn't cut it. Waiting for the Hagar reunion!

Special shout out to my favorite live bands: The Avett Brothers and The Young Dubliners

Fun thread.

Coming back from a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) I could't process music. It was very confusing. Sometimes I'd hear just the guitar or drums and my brain wouldn't put it all together. I turned on 99.5 one of my favorite stations and it all sounded like noise but I'd keep trying because I didn't understand why something I love, music, was now foreign. It took several months for me but the first song I could listen in its entirety and process was by this girl Maggie Rogers called Alaska, check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNWsW6c6t8g

I love this song and all her stuff is equally softly weird. There's something about a woman's voice in a band that seems to always float on top of the melody that my brain tends to appreciate. Old and new brain.

As far as my favorites my mix includes all genres and I tend to add favorites based on good memories so Alaska reminds me of coming back. Yesterday my shuffle mix played Nine Inch Nails followed by Ella Fitzgerald and that took me back to my wild child days.

You'd think I'd get some newly acquired savant-ism with the brain injury so I picked up my guitar and still could only strum the E and A cords. Bummer. But do you know how many songs you can play if you only know these two cords?

In no particular order...

Overall:
Pink Floyd
The Beatles
Umphrey's McGee
Aqueous
Led Zeppelin

Live:
Umphrey's McGee
Aqueous
Magic Beans
STS9
moe.

Honorable mentions to Raq (kind of similar to Phish, except more fun, they don't bore me, and they don't charge over $60 for a show), String Cheese Incident, Lotus, and the Grateful Dead. There's just too much good music to only mention 5.

Before I got sucked into jam bands, I would have included the Offspring, Flogging Molly, The Clash, Streetlight Manifesto, and depending on the day, Rancid.

Top 5 is hard, but I can give it a go.

1. Rise Against
2. In Flames
3. Green Day
4. Gojira
5. Of Mice & Men

I like just about anything and everything that has branched out of rock and metal music though.

Great to hear from you, blazintoes! Hoping your recovery is complete, or at least on a super path! How many songs can you play with just those 2 chords, or is that just rhetorical?

This thread us another reminder that I am no longer cool, young, or hip. I had to look up many of these bands because I had never heard of them.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.
