It's too bad that none of those awards were for reliability.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee (diesel) is currently the 8th worst vehicle on the road in this regard and the Cherokee is #2. To be fair, the gas version of the Grand Cherokee isn't that bad for a Chrysler, but even then it is still nowhere near as reliable as many vehicles from other manufacturers.

As for the Cherokee, a lot of the transmissions are failing before the first year of ownership. Yikes! As a former Jeep owner, I can attest to the fact that the acronym of Just Empty Every Pocket really is accurate for a Jeep.

Interesting chart Scott P, it would be interesting to see a breakdown by model, cost, demographic of buyer, average usage of said model to predict reliability.

I would think that a vehicle more intended to be driven off road, at a cheaper cost, attractive to younger more active people, might have more issues with needing repairs. Just a thought to why a jeep scores low in a predicted reliability.

I have been learning that routine maintenance is needed to keep any vehicle running in good shape.

Tacomas and 4Runners are at least as likey as a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee to be used off road and both are very reliable.

Also, even car based Jeeps, Chryslers, and now Fiats, which don't see much off road use have poor reliability. All divisions of Chrysler and Fiat are very unreliable, not just off road vehicles.

Tacomas and 4Runners...Sure, that is 2 of the 12 models included in the Toyota average, I think charts like these manipulate data and are not entirely telling. I would not recommend anyone purchase or not purchase a vehicle from this chart, but it is an interesting accumulated amount of data, not very valid but interesting, unless they have a The Stig of course testing all these cars.

Yes they are the 2-12 of the overall average. Also, Lexus and Toyota are same company, and they're both on top. In addition Toyota has consistently been on top, and I've never heard of either the 4Runner or taco to be unreliable. Plus the 08' 4Runner that's been in my family has NEVER had a problem, nor have other friends.

While on the other hand I've personally seen many faults in Jeeps, Fords, Chevy, (all American, really) and especially the s**t show Fiat. I worked for Enterprise/National/Alamo for a couple years and saw results consistent with these (including my personal cars), in all new model cars. There's some "accurate" statistic for you.

Cool man, never said anything bad about toyota. And your accurate stats are interesting, but are actually are just anecdotal. Like this, people always drive rental cars better than they do their own, because that is what me and my family do.
