Hello fellow 14er hikers,
My climbing/backpacking partner moved out of CO this past month and I'd love to make some new like-minded outdoor friends. My primary interests are class 3+ routes, as they keep me totally engaged in the present moment! I just got back from a summit bid on Mount Rainier and am itching to get some summits here in CO after weather turned us around in WA. Based in Denver, my schedule is really flexible with work and should have time for some climbs in September.
Here are the main ones that I'd love to do this summer:
-Little Bear -> Blanca Traverse (would prefer hourglass up since it is more straight-forward but am open to the alternate route. Am open to backpacking at Lake Como for a very early start)
-Wilson group/Wilson -> El Diente Traverse (may have a partner for this one but am open to doing it with someone else!)
-Capitol Peak/Snowmass (more focused on Capitol. Unless someone has a permit, Capitol would be a big push overnight)
-Maroon Bells Traverse (may also have a partner for this but his schedule is variable. Would prefer to do in reverse as descending North Maroon can be tricky. Permits seem to only be available on random weekdays)
-Longs Peak (prefer to ascend any route other than the Keyhole, obviously descend the Keyhole)
-Arrow Peak/Trinity Traverse (have done the Wham Ridge, wouldn't mind doing it again. Would love to do a sunset summit for Arrow)
-Pigeon/Turret
-Lone Eagle, solo flight route (this could wait until September when you don't need a permit)
A little bit more about me - grad student studying glaciology/hydrology, GIS Analyst, and avid photographer (love me a good sunrise/sunset on top of a summit). My hiking pace is above average as I work out and mountain bike every week , climbing speed is average depending on the route finding. I'm potentially open to other routes as well, would really just love to make some new friends!

The 2 this year for me are Crestone Peak to Needle and Capital. I have no permits but would be open to day hiking it in late Aug-early Sept. I did Snowmass in 12.5 hours from the standard route last year so it should be realistic with an early start and I did the Bells Traverse Solo. Crestone Traverse is higher priority but it looks like you completed that. Any interest in going Peak to Needle?

Definitely open for Capitol. Don't know your schedule but I did find a permit opening up next Friday as well as some in late August! That way the trip will be a little more enjoyable and I can snag a permit to get a date solidified.Briere wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 7:47 pm The 2 this year for me are Crestone Peak to Needle and Capital. I have done the Crestone traverse, in reverse! Rappelled down the Needle with the climbing partner I mentioned who moved away, I'm sure the route is much different the normal way. Also ran into the worst weather of my life at the end of that traverse. I could potentially be open to doing it again but more keen on doing LB to Blanca in that area if you were also up for that?
The Bells Traverse solo is impressive!!

Late August - Early Sept is my preferred; I am leaving LB Blanca as the last Traverse so will likely do that next year. What made you decide to go from Needle to Peak?LandoCommando wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 9:12 pmDefinitely open for Capitol. I will send you a DM about scrambling in Boulder or something in July to confirm we are the sameish pace and skill.
