Condition Update

We were hoping to ski Bierstadt today but got a late start (1.5 hour delay on I70) and conditions were challenging. The Guanella Pass road is closed 5 miles short of the upper TH. We skinned through wet, heavy snow up to the base of the normal route, but it was getting late so we skinned up to about 12.6k on Square Top. The four of us made a nice ski trench. This is the most skiable Ive ever seen Bierstadt, so might be worth a try! There is a good trench in place to near the Bierstadt TH restroom. Conditions on Square Top were pretty good, though Sastrugi forming and we heard loud whumphing in the willow flats between the peaks.

#1) Bierstadt West face#2) Plenty of deep, heavy snow to go around! Trench follows road for almost 5 miles, then cuts off last switchback towards Bierstadt#3) Square Top#4) Bierstadt could have continuous snow off summit, with creative descent

We got back to the TH at 6pm and not plowed beyond the hydro power plant. Talked to the plow driver- he says they need a grading truck (I think) because so much snow. No idea about timeline tho
