1/29/2024 Route: East Ridge Posted On: 1/29/2024, By: Chipmunk Info: Beautiful weather for a climb of Massive, Massive Green and North Massive today. With the previously established trench we were able to summit Massive without snowshoes, thanks to those who set it! We got a bit confused with the multiple trail junctions leaving the fish hatchery, this was easier with daylight on the return. I used spikes and ice axe for the traverse between Massive Green and North Massive and appreciated having them, though my partner managed without. We descended the NE ridge of North Massive and used a rocky slope to drop into the valley. Once in the valley we donned snowshoes and broke trail down to the highline trail and back to our ascent trench. There were an alarming number of snowpack collapses on low angle terrain while setting this trench. Treeline 2:47 Summit 5:21 Left summit 5:41 N Massive 7:13 Back to car 11:14 |

1/27/2024 Route: East Ridge Posted On: 1/28/2024, By: holman Info: @stickmann and I had almost perfect conditions for a winter ascent. We left the fish hatchery at 5:00, made it to the treeline by 10:30, summit by 14:30, back to the treeline by 17:00, and back to the hatchery by 19:30. It was a long day, but very rewarding. We followed the trench to Colorado/Continental Divide intersection with the graffitied sign. From there we trenched to the timberline - possibly on top of an old one that had snowed over. There was very little post-holing all the way. Someone left a pair of snowshoes on top of the knob above the treeline where we also ditched ours. Traction unnecessary to the peak. Above the treeline was windy - around 20mph. There were a couple of tents by the pond on the way out. I assume that they will use the trench for an ascent tomorrow. Trenching to the treeline was far easier than our first attempt on 1/9/2023. |

12/30/2023 Route: East Ridge Posted On: 12/30/2023, By: mtn_nut Info: Hiked from the fish hatchery, we put in a pretty good skin track from the highline trail to 12K feet. Above 12K is mostly snow free, but there was some post-holeing from 13k - 13.5k. The snow below 12K is pretty thin, lots of rocks and wood showing through the snow. |

10/20/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 10/21/2023, By: Chuckie92 Info: Trail is dry and clear. A little snow at the top that is mostly avoidable and doesnt cause any problems. |

10/7/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 10/9/2023, By: howla Info: Route is still dry up to the summit, any snow along the ridgeline is avoidable. My watch clocked 11.25 miles round trip and 4200' of vert. Give yourself extra time to get up, it will take longer than you think |

10/6/2023 Route: East Slopes Posted On: 10/7/2023, By: enoki Info: Went up East Slopes and down Southwest Slopes. East Slopes: Snow started at 12k-ish and got mildly annoying after 13k. Never needed spikes though. Southwest Slopes: almost totally dry other than the final stretch to the summit. |

9/30/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 9/30/2023, By: Ryan987 Info: Dry and beautiful. The road up is pretty tough. If you have a 4x4 and some more gas in you I highly recommend continuing on to champion mill. Remainder of the road isn't as bad |

9/26/2023 Route: East Slopes Posted On: 9/27/2023, By: gmarcotte Info: Standard route is still entirely snow-free. When descending to the saddle from the summit, there were some low cairns that looked like a shortcut to the trail below but just led into a bunch of extra talus-hopping and wound up at the saddle anyway -- recommend staying high on the main trail. |

9/26/2023 Route: Northern Ridge from Oklahoma Posted On: 9/27/2023, By: gmarcotte Info: Almost all of this route is snow-free. There is a little bit of snow holding on the NE aspects of the Massive ridge -- if you stay on the ridge proper or divert to the SW you can avoid it entirely, or it's pretty easy to climb around -- I brought spikes but didn't use them. The ridge direct goes pretty much all the way. There are only a couple places where you'll get cliffed out and need to route around. I'd say it's mandatory Class 3 at most, and the exposed sections are easy Class 2. Lots of variations to take it to Class 4/5 in spots -- but this is a very long and committing route, I took 5hrs getting from the summit of Oklahoma to the summit of Massive. |

9/24/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 9/24/2023, By: Strugglr Info: Dry all the way up. Some snow along the ridge to North Massive but no traction was needed. Aspens starting to look really good in spots. |

9/20/2023 Route: East Slopes Posted On: 9/20/2023, By: eekare Info: Started at 5:15 am on Sep 20th. Trailhead was near empty, I was the first person on the summit, and saw about 20 people on my way down. The storm the previous day left snow above 11,500 feet. Even with this, the trail was clearly visible. The deepest spots were only 3 inches. The wind was very chilly before the sun warmed things up. I brought spikes, but did not feel the need to use them - however, it may be icy early tomorrow when the snowmelt freezes. Upon descent, most of the snow had melted. Elevation gain is tame. The route is in great condition. |

9/17/2023 Route: Massive Mania Posted On: 9/18/2023, By: sarahmariekirk Info: Mount Oklahoma (13,845) yesterday along with the Massive Mania route - Northwest Massive (14,171), North Massive (14,337), Massive Green (14,311), Massive Proper (14,427) and South Massive (14,157). The class 3&4 scrambling along the ridge from Oklahoma to Massive was sustained and so much fun - the best part of the day by far. The climb up to North Massive and to Massive Green is intermittent class 2 and class 3 scrambling; we stayed on the right side of the ridge and this seemed to be the best route on our way to Massive Green. We did not see a soul until the Massive proper summit, and the last peak of the day was South Massive which was a quick jaunt up to the summit and a good finish to the Tour. Fantastic day up high and an incredible route. |

8/15/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 8/17/2023, By: Benito_Esposti Info: Road up was in alright condition up to ~.25 miles from the trailhead. From there it got pretty rough but my subaru outback was able to get through with some careful line picking. If you have anything with less that 8 inches of clearance I'd recommend parking below this point. The trail is in good condition. It is steep and slightly loose in places but nothing too bad. Final ascent to Massive once you join onto the East slopes trail is good, stick near the ridge. We then went over to Massive green and North Massive. Hike to Green is chill and obvious. Once you get to the saddle between Green and North the trail fades. We went right (northeast) of the first large tower and traversed on some rocks above snow. This definitely felt like class 3 if not harder. Alternatively you could go across the snow, but it did not feel very stable to us which is why we avoided it. Beyond that you have to find much of your own route up to North. We stuck left (west) until we were just below a large face with lots of black rock on the lower section of the face. Apologies I forgot to get a picture. We then scrambled directedly up to the base of the face and traversed left until we were just right of the final tower before the summit, but again this felt much more like class 3. From here it was pretty easy to get up onto the ridge and reach the summit, just again pretty loose. We followed the same route down. There were a few cairns along the route but they were few and far between. Keep an eye out for them. Enjoy! |

8/5/2023 Route: Southwest Slopes Posted On: 8/5/2023, By: Abowser7 Info: Beautiful conditions, summer conditions all the way to the summit. Decently busy for Massive. Southwest slopes route is in great condition and the trail looks well maintained. I was able to make it all the way to the trailhead in my 4runner with a 3" lift. Saw lots of stock rav4s and subarus up there too, shouldn't be an issue if you have 4wd. There is one relatively rough section of the road about .2 miles from TH, pretty easy to pass, just hang left when going up and stay right going down. |
