6/21/2020 Route: Southwest Ridge Posted On: 6/21/2020, By: Danger_D Info: The snow this week is still sticking around. A few small snowfields below 13k, all with good steps in place. Above 13k its more snow than not, but its only an inch or two and has a good bootpack/trench in place. No traction required, but poles helped. |

6/13/2020 Route: Edwards + McClellan: East Slopes Posted On: 6/13/2020, By: nmedica Info: Hiked the East Slopes of Edwards and McClellan. The jeep trail was clear to the upper parking area. There are still a few steeper snowfields that had some stiffer permafrost, but they can be avoided by hiking on the talus. |

11/9/2019 Route: Naylor Lake TH Posted On: 11/9/2019, By: dwoodward13 Info: Trench is in fantastic condition up to Silver Dollar Lake. Decent condition up to Murray Lake. From Murray Lake I contoured NE to the obvious gully to reach the next shelf up. From there its just pick your line to Wilcox. After Murray Lake there are only a few small sections of snow, otherwise dry tundra. I headed to Edwards via Argentine from Wilcox, then reversed back to the Naylor Lake TH. Ridge the whole way is 95% dry. Note it is an long ways from Argentine to Edwards, with tons of small little bumps, so be ready and have good weather. Flotation is way overkill. I was killing myself for bringing it. I never used traction, but some may want for some steeper gully crossings up to Silver Dollar Lake. Absolute perfect bluebird day in the high country! |

10/13/2019 Route: From Argentine/argentine pass Posted On: 10/14/2019, By: dcruz654 Info: Snow on about 60% of trail to the top of the pass (including a few short shin deep spots), sprinklings of snow from there along the ridge to the summit. Didn't use/traction, in fact the snow was actually really nice to jog down at about 3pm on my way down. But that won't be the case as the snow packs down. 1:15 to summit Argentine (took a direct line from the trail up a gulley to the summit) 0:55 over to Edwards 0:25 to Mclellan 1:20 back to the th About 5-10 mins on each summit for a total rt of 4:05. Moderate jogging on the downhills. IT'S STILL HIKING SEASON LADIES AND GENTS |

9/14/2019 Route: Southwest Ridge Posted On: 9/15/2019, By: angry Info: Summer conditions. Well defined trail from parking lot all the way to the summit. |

8/24/2019 Route: West Ridge from Grays Peak Posted On: 8/27/2019, By: supranihilest Info: There's a considerable amount of elevation loss and re-gain between Grays and Edwards. Most of the terrain is Class 2 or 2+ and is more solid and less steep on the ridge crest. The tradeoff is it's more exposed north into Stevens Gulch. Traversing the southern slopes of the ridge above Ruby Gulch is a lot more difficult than it would seem, so your best bet is to stay on the ridge crest itself, even if the scrambling is technically more difficult. |

8/18/2019 Route: Southwest Ridge Posted On: 8/19/2019, By: E_A_Marcus_949 Info: Bridge is in great shape over the first creek crossing.Trail is in great condition to the saddle between Argentine & Edwards. Edwards has great cairns and trail pretty much the entire way to the summit. One small (10 steps max) snow crossing or you could easily go around it. Small summit. No register. |

7/7/2019 Route: Edwards + McClellan: East Slopes Posted On: 7/7/2019, By: nedryarson Info: Used microspikes for about 500ft in the gully below the ridges. You could've avoided snow on either side but it would've required a good amount of extra distance and loose terrain. Ended up gaining the ridge south of the Edwards summit (by mistake) but I think it ended up being easier than going up between Edwards and McClellan. Ridge walk over to McClellan was quick and snow wasn't an issue. Had a sloppy but fun glissade back down the gully. |

6/29/2019 Route: Edwards + McClellan: East Slopes Posted On: 6/29/2019, By: cougar Info: Most snow can be avoided except for a couple short stretches, rather soft. I followed a dry 'arm' to bypass most of the snowfield on the ascent. Decent glissading on the descent, snow was soft and suncupped. Summit is still coated in a thick cornice, which I postholed in. Carried spikes and axe but didn't use them, might be helpful in a couple spots. Ridge to Grays is still snowy with cornices. Ridge to Argentine is mostly dry, but Argentine's east face is holding a lot of snow, as is the road in spots. Did Mclellan also - mostly dry with some stretches of snow on the ridge. |

6/25/2019 Route: Edwards + McClellan: East Slopes Posted On: 6/25/2019, By: frigidridge Info: Did mcclellan>edwards>Argentine from waldorf mine. 4wd road is clear of snow all the way to the mine, but the rest of Argentine pass is mostly buried in steep snow. Road is doable in a subaru outback, although a handful of small trenches across the road had me scraping underneath the front of the car. No major damage but higher clearence would have helped. Traction needed for climbing the snow gully all the way to Edwards, but Edwards > Argentine ridge can be done mostly snow-free. Descending the pass to the mine was a pain due to large steep snow over the road. A few glissades were done but crampons could be helpful for the initial ascent and descent. |

6/15/2019 Route: Edwards + McClellan: East Slopes Posted On: 6/15/2019, By: ilikereds Info: I didnt actually do McClellan. We started at Waldorf Mine and headed to Argentine pass and then up to the summit. Lots of snow in the area! Avoid willows to avoid the pain. Summit covered, had to use microspikes to safely make it to summit. Came down the valley between Edwards and McClellan. Lots of snow and was fairly firm, even in the noon sun. Started at 0630, summited at 1030 and back to TH at 1230. Will be at least a couple more weeks before most the snow is gone. |

4/27/2019 Route: North Couloir? Posted On: 4/28/2019, By: Buddyboy27 Info: Drove a 4WD 4 ton truck with 33" snow tires (no chains) about 0.5 miles up Stevens Gulch Road before things got too deep. I think someone got 25' further than I did but turned around. Skinned easily all the way from the truck to the apron of Goatfinger. WINDY up there on Saturday but the north aspect provided amazing snow. 12" of freshies up in the couloir. I would say that the wind will change this, I am sure it will, but looks like there is a TON of snow in the forecast that will definitely make the snow conditions here irrelevant. Things got a bit hard-packed near the summit but great climbing conditions. A small amount of sugar along with a rocky exit near top out. Side stepped over rocks into entrance and near choke. Would be tricky to get this line perfectly clean. Ski-able from summit back to truck. Pictures show rough idea of snow coverage on Greys and Torreys. |

8/5/2018 Route: Southwest Ridge Posted On: 8/6/2018, By: Thevirtualsherpa Info: Beautiful day on Mt Edwards, minus the clouds that looked angry all day and some hail. My dog and I had the entire mountain to ourselves minus a handful of 4x4s on Argentine Pass. Trail is in great shape and provides an excellent alternative to the CF Grays and Torreys right next door. |

7/1/2018 Route: Southwest Ridge Posted On: 7/1/2018, By: PBR Powered Info: There is one strip (10yrds long) of snow left on the trail. Super fun mountain and the trail is well marked with cairns assuming you find the correct exit from the road at the very beginning of the trail. Took our party of two only 2 hours to reach the summit of Mt. Edwards from the closed gate. We summited at 8:40 as the wind began to pick up. It was also fun to wave over at the caravan of hikers on Greys and Torreys. We could have been back down in another 1.5 hrs but decided to hit Argentine too. Cheers. |
