Route: Herman Gulch Trailhead Approach
Posted On: 7/17/2016, By: jasayrevt
Info: Clear and very nice enjoyable trip with reaching summit. Great, beautiful 13er mountain. This route is definitely cool and lightly traveled. Prime summer conditions up high for navigating slopes & ridge line well. Trail runners and light pack were good. Travel safely / swiftly in the hills folks. Pictures included as beta

Route: E Ridge from Butler
Posted On: 1/7/2012, By: Monster5
Info: Attempted the longer East ridge from Butler Gulch after gaining pt 12,109 (snowshoes/spikes helpful but not needed). Turned back just below the junction with the continental divide (~12,750) due to a section with poor avy conditions (tension cracks either side of a convex) and no safe passage. The cornice on the divide is also starting to get pretty hefty. From this approach, I would recommend crossing the longer E/W ridge bordering Butler and contouring into the basin above and to the east of Hassell Lake before picking an obvious, currently safe line up Hassell's direct, east flank. Or take Jones Pass Road all the way to the Divide before heading south.
