Route: Copper mountain
Posted On: 5/17/2025, By: kyrawhitworth
Info: Somehow managed to time conditions to get a great ski down. Started at 5am, immediately got turned around and we ended up booting service roads to get to the one of the runs that would take up to union. Sidecutted over then took the ridge. (How far does the copper snowcat go? Inquiring minds want to know.) It is almost skinnable to the summit, ski crampons helpful. Snow was soft enough despite some cloud cover at 10:30am so we enjoyed not too firm turns mostly following the ridge (thankfully winds stayed light). We then found lots of amazing soft turns inbounds that turned to slush and semi frozen snowmobile crud down low. Parked Beeler lot.

Route: Union Creek at Copper
Posted On: 5/20/2024, By: VeraUndertow
Info: Left from Union Creek lot at 5:30 AM thinking the snow would warm up quickly today. Overnight freeze was solid and I skinned up toward Timberline chair, then up to Union peak from there. Copper has already plowed all the summer roads so I did end up crossing 3 dirt paths; the further climbers right you go the less you'll deal with. Once I got above treeline, it was super windy so I took my time skinning up the long ridge from Union to Jacque and still had to wait 30 minutes on the summit for early corn at 9:15, and I could have waited a bit more honestly for hero corn as I skied down toward copper bowl. I was able to ski pretty continuously with only a little side stepping (~25 feet) to get from the east face of Jacque into copper bowl and down to just above mountain chief lift. Then I skinned up the cat track and ended up under blackjack lift and traversed around back to American flyer unload so I could ski down The Moz to Woodwind traverse to get out. Copper has also done a lot of tree work and some trails were totally covered with branches and pine needles so you have to find one that is not covered in crap. I saw a few copper employees/leitner poma lift install people and no one told me I couldn't be there. When I got back to my truck I saw a note on my windshield that I thought was a ticket, but just said the Union Creek lot is closed for leitner poma construction crew staging, I think you can still park on the road in the spots just past the union Creek lot entrance tho. Overall was around 9 miles and took like 4:45 minutes including 30 minutes hanging on the summit. I will say I've never skied at copper before so I'm sure there are more fun lines to get back to where I came from.

Route: Via Copper West Village
Posted On: 5/16/2024, By: HikesInGeologicTime
Info: Attempted Jacque, settled for Union Peak and a bump or two past the ski resort boundary. Was able to skin from a few feet past the West Village base area, followed Roundabout to West Ten Mile to Soliloquy (Uphill Routes 8 and 6 when lifts are turning) and up Timber Ridge to the top of Union Peak. Probably should have called it at UP, since the snow was already warming, and I was getting nervous about the way the snow had corniced on Jacques ridge, but I decided to keep going in case I could spot a less anxiety-inducing option closer in. Given that Jacque quickly drops off into avy terrain on both sides of the ridge it shares with Copper, I decided not to risk it when there was some decent skiing to be had within Copper boundaries, since that part of the mountain closed April 28th. Might have been happier keeping skins on for the traverse back to Union. Worth noting that signs at the resort entrance and the walkway to West Village are very clear that uphill access is, shall I say, not resort-approved, but I managed to avoid trouble by staying out of the way of the cats and snowmobiles operating on the mountain.

Route: Copper Mountain Village

Info: Summited Jacque from the Copper Mountain Village side, riding my mountain bike till the service roads ended and then hiking from there. Highly recommend this method for efficiency and getting some fun single track flow on the descent. Jacques ridge was pleasant, the views were exceptional, and the talus was surprisingly tippy. Something special about those multi sport sends!

Route: Copper Mountain Resort

Info: No snow gear required. Booted from car to summit , avoiding most of the snow except on the summit ridge, where it was easier to stay on the narrow snow line than leave the ridge and deal with annoying loose talus instead. Route is very easy, you can just pick any ski run and head up and eventually you'll see the summit and approach ridge off to the west. Perfect weather -- winds were light most of the time with only occasional moderate gusts. Very quiet on this peak which actually has a central position for viewing the Gore, Sawatch, Front, and especially the Tenmile/Mosquito ranges.

Route: Union Creek Parking

Info: No snow or ice from the previous storm. The smoke wasn't an issue. That was the first time I ever saw a roller coaster while hiking!

Route: From ski area

Info: Parked at Union Creek parking lot, there were cars that appeared to be parked there overnight so no issues for day use. Started skinning up from West Village after walking past a sign that said "no uphill acess", which seemed odd as it was off-season and public land. An employee on a snowmobile found us not long into our hike and told us that they were logging and conducting controlled burns today, which explained the sign. He explained to us that Lumberjack liftline and above was fine, though I'm not sure if that was because were were actually allowed to or if he was just letting us. After that, we didn't see anyone else all day. Easy skin up Roundabout and Soliloquoy to the top of Timberline Express, then took the blues up from there to get up towards Sierra and Celebrity Ridge. We opted to skin up to the ridge above Copper Bowl and deal with the up and down as the traverse from where we were would hav required a good bit of descent. Skinning up Jacque's East ridge went okay, but we had to switch to booting. A bit of talus to walk over near the top. Skied from 15ft from the summit. East bowl looked great, I didn't take it as my partner decided not to summit and was waiting for me on the ridge. Duffy's Rage looke pretty good, except the entrance doesn't look very skiable.

Route: Copper Mountain

Info: From Union Creek Parking at Copper Mountain. Skinned up pretty much continuous snow to the top, barring a few short tundra sections. Found ski crampons helpful towards the top of the summit ridge. We opted for a descent into Copper Bowl where the snow was fantastic! Duffy's Rage is looking nice and filled in too, albeit a tad corniced. :)

Route: Copper Creek

Info: A few snow fields to walk through on the east ridge. Can avoid a couple by dropping down to the north, but not worth it on the others. No snow below treeline.

Route: Via Graveline Gulch and Cooper Mountain
Posted On: 7/21/2019, By: supranihilest
Info: Aside from a short snow crossing on the ridge up Jacque the entire route is dry. The ridge is somewhat loose Class 2+. Route finding is the only issue on this loop - it's very steep up Copper Mountain and the descent will take you through the gulch, which is heavily forested, without a trail. Bring a GPS if you aren't confident in your route finding abilities.

Route: North ridge from Searle pass
Posted On: 12/18/2017, By: SnowAlien
Info: Colorado Trail is packed down by foot traffic to Janet's cabin. From there, we postholed 0.5 mi to Searle pass (flotation advisable), and then took mostly dry ridge to the summit.

Info: Clear and very nice enjoyable trip w/ reaching summit. Invigorating Hobby. Great, beautiful 13er mountain. This quality, classic route is a unique undertaking and lightly traveled. Incredible views of Gore and Mosquito Ranges. Prime, excellent, and bluebird summer conditions up high for navigating slopes and ridge line extremely well. Trail runners and light pack were good. Climb safely / swiftly in the hills folks. Pictures included as beta

Route: NE Ridge from Copper Mtn
Posted On: 6/29/2015, By: Tony1
Info: Almost completely snow-free from Center Village in Copper to the summit of Jacque, roughly following the American Flyer lift, then up the ridge to the top of the ski area, then along the ridge to the summit. The ground is still very wet though. Bright microspikes but didn‘t use them.
