6/1/2014 Route: South Couloir Posted On: 6/3/2014, By: BillMiddlebrook Info: I've skied White's S/SW couloirs several times and never been disappointed - today was no exception. Overnight temps were just below freezing and we knew we could avoid the early sunhit, so today we chose White Ridge instead of Horseshoe Mountain. We parked at 11,700' on the Fourmile Creek road and had firm, continuous snow from the truck to 12,400', just below the couloirs. Above the lower snowfield we booted over a short section of talus to reach snow again, at the base of the steeper, right-most couloir (upper center of pic #1). The couloir was firm and we made quick work of it to be on the summit by 9:15. Chilled on the summit until 10:30 before skiing down into the same couloir for a fun descent on corn. |
