Peak Condition Updates

Route: From Cinnamon Mtn

Info: From Cinnamon Pass, snow persists en route to the Cinnamon-13549 saddle, but it can be avoided by venturing out on the steep, loose talus. Most hazardous within 50-100 feet of the saddle. Once on the ridge, all snow can be avoided for both peaks.

Info: Driving from Silverton was not as bad as expected. 1 hour 10 minutes to the top of the pass. Stock 4x4 tacoma long bed with slightly oversized tires aired down to 20 psi. A confident subbie driver with skid plates could make it in my opinion (although I personally wouldn't take less than my Taco). Roughest section felt like the 300 feet just after the Engineer Pass junction. If you can make it through that you're fine all the way to the top and down the other side. Hit this after Wood Mtn to Animas Forks Mtn. 45 minutes up and 40 minutes back down. A bit of snow but no traction needed. Beautiful summit that's worth the jaunt.

Info: Two switchbacks on snow shortly after leaving the parking area to reach the saddle east of Cinnamon Mountain, but dry the rest of the way. Approach shoes without traction were fine going up and down. The summit offers spectacular views.
