10/22/2023 Route: From Stony Pass Posted On: 10/24/2023, By: IHikeLikeAGirl Info: This is probably a moot point since a little snow is coming, but if it warms up.... Summer conditions, to Canby and over to Galena. Road to Stony Pass was 100% dry. Looked like quite a bit of grading had been done on the road. I was dreading the drive up, but found it to be on the easier side of 4wd roads (for this weekend)...I believe, easily Subaru-able, but there were some sharp rocks if you're worried about your tires. And fortunately I only passed 2 vehicles coming down on the narrow, shelf sections. :) |

6/11/2022 Route: South Slopes from Stony Pass Posted On: 6/11/2022, By: supranihilest Info: From the pass I went climber's right around a big, rocky knob and then across the top of it on a trail (used for the Hardrock 100). Once past the summit cliffs I went straight up the slope, first on ledgy grass and scree then on pure steep scree, which was exhausting. Entire hike is Class 2, just steep and loose. For an easier descent (and probably ascent, too) go to the saddle with "Hardrocker" to the west and take the Hardrock 100 trail down. |
