6/2/2024 Route: From Thirty Mile via CDT Posted On: 6/3/2024, By: HikerGuy Info: Weminuche Trail is dry, very little deadfall. Decided to take the CDT instead of the Skyline Trail. I imagine it would have been about the same either way conditions wise. Intermittant snow begins in earnest around 11,900. All snow fields were supportive. Once at the pass I tackled 13,022 first, which proved to be a bit more difficult than I expected (make sure to read up on this one). Once back at the CDT saddle, I ascended Window Peak. This was snow free from saddle to summit. I dropped off the east side of Window Peak back to the CDT. From there I entered the basin beneath Rio Grande Pyramid and ascended to a flat bench. From the bench I made my way to the saddle between the two pyramids. I ascended the snow free southwest ridge from the saddle. From Fools it's easy down to the saddle with 13,274. Here you have skirt along the east side of some towers until you work you way to 13,274's southwest ridge. Snow free from here until the summit. The descent goes down Weminuche Creek basin. Snow free and mostly open with a bit of tedium navigating deadfall. 24.83 miles and 6,272 feet round trip from Thirty Mile Campground. |
