7/22/2023 Route: From 13033 (13026) Posted On: 7/24/2023, By: HikerGuy Info: I hiked a counterclockwise loop of 13014(13003), 13033(13026), Wayah Pk and 13221(13212). If I were to hike this again, I would hike a clockwise loop. This group is tough, the first outing of the season that put a hurting on me. Except for the first and last quarter mile of the Fryingpan Lakes Trail, you are bushwhacking. There is very little tundra walking on the ridge lines, lots and lots of talus. Nothing too difficult, just tedious. 13.68 miles and 6,569 feet. FSR 505 to the trailhead is a good 2wd dirt road. |

8/23/2021 Route: from 13,212 Posted On: 8/23/2021, By: SnowAlien Info: UN 13,212 has a register, Wayah summit doesn't. Off trail route finding up the north ridge of 13,212 is not difficult, just tedious, pretty reasonable route actually despite the appearance. Fun summit block (did west side up and standard south side down). Ridge to Wayah has some scrambling, although not sustained. Dropped east into Fryingpan lakes drainage, a little steep, but it goes. Trail was hard to find initially, but once found, it's an excellent trail with up-to-date maintenance. Made for a relatively speedy exit. |
