Route: From halfmoon pass
Posted On: 11/3/2024, By: yaktoleft13
Info: A few inches of snow throughout the whole route. Easy travel to halfmoon pass. Once at the base of the slope up notch, talus hopping let me avoid most of the snow, but my dog wasn't so lucky. Anytime you have to step on snow, it's completely unsupportive and hiding rocks underneath. Probably 4-8 inches everywhere except on the tops of talus. Ended up descending notch mountain trail (which has way too many switchbacks) to fall creek, which was pretty easy travel. 10 1/2 miles, 3600 feet.

Route: Halo Ridge
Posted On: 9/26/2019, By: supranihilest
Info: Navigating the notch from Notch Mountain is absolutely the crux of Halo Ridge. When descending off Notch Mountain towards the notch stay on the ridge crest. I descended on the east side down ledges and had to do some Class 3 back to the ridge crest, where it dropped back to Class 2+. Once at the notch go west and traverse on scree/talus ledges and over ribs until the cliffs above you and to the east disappear in a large talus field. I tried ascending prior to this and found stiff scrambling, so I returned each time to the traversing ledges knowing it wasn't supposed to be difficult. Once you hit the obvious large talus field just go up to the now broad ridge, past the Notch Mountain Shelter, and up more rough talus and boulders to Point 13,248's summit.
