Driving Directions |
From U.S. 24 south of Leadville, turn onto Colorado 300 and drive 0.7 miles before turning left onto County Road 11. Continue for 1.2 miles, then turn right onto Halfmoon Creek Road (County Road 11). Follow this road for 5.5 miles to reach the main Mt. Massive parking area. At this point, the road is in the National Forest, so it's identified as Forest Service (FS) 101. 2WD vehicles should park here.
For the North Halfmoon Trailhead, continue on the narrow FS 101 4WD road. At 7.6 miles, you'll reach a junction for FS Road 110J. If you don’t have high-clearance 4WD, park here. Otherwise, stay right and continue 0.5 miles to the marked trailhead. |

4/2/2005 Posted On: 4/2/2005 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: The Halfmoon road is closed in winter - typically only a short distance from County Road 11. It normally melts out in early May. Check with the U.S. Forest Service for TH access. After the Mt. Massive TH parking, the road turns to 4WD as it leads to the N. Halfmoon Creek TH. |
