8/7/2016 Posted On: 8/8/2016 By: bdloftin77 Info: Rained recently, so some big puddles on the Kilpacker turnoff. Trailhead accessible via any car. (I did it yesterday with a 2wd Toyota Echo sedan)
6/29/2016 Posted On: 7/2/2016 By: jeffs Info: Road was clear to the TH. Passed a Mini Cooper and a Mustang convertible with the top down on the way out!? I'm not sure the road is THAT smooth.... :)
5/27/2016 Posted On: 5/30/2016 By: drhansenej Info: Hit continuous old snow drifts across the road at about 2.3 mi from TH. Looks like someone tried to drive across the first drift unsuccessfully, the tire tracks barely made it halfway.
5/21/2015 Posted On: 5/21/2015 By: DoctorBreaks Info: Per Norwood Ranger District the road is clear to the TH
8/23/2014 Posted On: 8/25/2014 By: mspalding Info: This is currently a 2wd road. Even with all the rain and mud it's a low clearance Honda Fit or Prius 2wd road. Also watch closely. The turn off of 145 headed south from Telluride is on your right exactly 5.1 miles from the Lizard Head Pass sign. It is marked with a small sign that I think says 535.
6/12/2014 Posted On: 6/13/2014 By: Johnson Info: Great road conditions all the way to the TH.
1/1/2014 Posted On: 1/1/2014 By: Eagle Eye Info: No sign of 4 wheeled tracks or travel on this road, except people unloading from the paved shoulder at the start of the road. There are ski and snowmobile tracks going up the road now.
11/30/2013 Posted On: 12/1/2013 By: Eagle Eye Info: FR 535 right off CO 145 has a blanket of snow over it & shows no sign of having recently been driven on. A fairly deep drift area has formed at the bottom of the first incline.
5/25/2013 Posted On: 5/28/2013 By: sjhiker Info: Driving by, so I did a little recon. Dry all the way to TH. Hiked in running shoes for a mile and a half before turning around due to deeper, patchy snow (need gaiters). Turned around before the fork.
8/29/2012 Posted On: 9/3/2012 By: 2giqs Info: Still in good shape for 2wd passage. Very narrow first 3 miles with limited turnouts. Be wary of impatient downhill drivers.
6/1/2012 Posted On: 6/3/2012 By: Nelson Info: Road Clear and in good shape for 2wd all the way.
6/1/2011 Posted On: 6/2/2012 By: Nelson Info: Road is open and in great shape. Passable for all vehicles.
9/7/2010 Posted On: 9/7/2010 By: tundraking Info: The directions say to turn right on "Forest Road". Please note that you should turn right (west) on Forest Road 535. There is also a sign here that says "Dunton". This intersection is about 5 miles past Lizard Head pass if you are coming from Telluride.
5/29/2010 Posted On: 5/31/2010 By: BAUMGARA Info: Completely dry to the TH.
