4/3/2006 Posted On: 4/3/2006 By: run2xs Info: Was able to drive to mile 9 on Saturday, Apr 1. Was probably driveable farther if you have a decent 4wd w/ clearance, but I was alone and didn't want to risk getting stuck.
2/9/2006 Posted On: 2/9/2006 By: Cruiser Info: Colorado 18 is plowed up to about 7 or 8 tenths of a mile below Leavick. After that you will want to have snowshoes or a ski touring setup as it gets fairly deep along the road in places.
9/6/2005 Posted On: 9/6/2005 By: bayouaggie Info: Climbed Sherman on 09/03 - The Fourmile Road is still open all the way to the gate at 12,100'. This road is in excellent condition, as even small passenger cars (Hondas) made it all the way up to this gate. Looks like they had recently smoothed out the road all the way to Leavick.
5/25/2005 Posted On: 5/25/2005 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: The road is open all the way to the closed gate near 12,100'. 4WD is recommended past the Leavick site but a good-clearance 2WD could slowly make it to 11,800'.
5/10/2005 Posted On: 5/10/2005 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: The road is still closed near 11,000' - 9 miles after leaving U.S. 285. The closure is about 1 mile before the Leavick site. The snow on the road is pretty deep.
2/18/2005 Posted On: 2/18/2005 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: County Road 18 is closed in winter but not always at the same spot. The road typically clears up to the Leavick area (possibly higher) in mid to late May. |
