Longs Island Iced Peak

Keyhole Route

Image

After months of extreme summit yearning (thanks to my daily view of Longs Peak on my drive home from work), and with the help of an excellent weather forecast, I finally managed a climb of Longs, my 34th unique summit. I was rather shocked by the crowds on an early Tuesday morning, and I will likely opt to do the loft in the future if I have the opportunity to spend more time with the mountain.

Here is a link to a full write-up and plenty of photography: Longs Island Iced Peak

It took me about nine hours and twenty minutes to get up and down. The route, as mentioned before in several conditions reports, is in full summer swag. Winds made the upper difficulties of the route more difficult. I noticed some people who made the mistake of going up towards the false keyhole and they struggled to get down. I end the write-up with an exclusive drink recipe Here is a preview of some of the photography~

Enjoyed your narrative and your pics are super! If you ever decide to climb Meeker, the best way I think is through the Iron Gates and then up the ridge. The entire route is viewed from the shot you took on Longs. You can then either descend back via the Loft, or keep going up Keplingers and join the Homestretch and hit Longs again -- my favorite way!

Since I'm getting older I am envious that you notched Longs! Hope to hookup with some seniors that hike my pace and get this off my bucket list! I've been working over 9 years looking at the peak teasing me daily! Now retired and getting ready for August attempt!
