East Peak Story

East Spanish Peak - 12,684' - West Ridge

19436_01

A little over a year ago, I posted a trip report detailing a climb of West Spanish Peak called Conquistador-able. At the time, my adventuring partner in crime (the other Overcast Adventurer) was earning his Masters Degree in Scotland. He returned last fall and wasn't able to join for my last summit of the season. While in Scotland, I recounted to him how fun West Spanish Peak was to hike, and how I would be happy to do it again with him back in the states. I usually plan our excursions but he planned out this trip and I didn't realize until the day before we departed he was actually planning a summit of West Spanish Peak's smaller sibling!

East Spanish Peak, even with its lower summit and "mere 12er status", is just as breathtaking. Even better, we almost had the entire day to ourselves, 10 miles and 3,000' of elevation gain and we only encountered 3 people near the summit.

The full write-up, complete with numerous photos and some route description, can be found here - East Peak Story.
