 DeCaLiBron Loop

Hiked up DeCaLiBron this morning - plan was to go clockwise and start with Democrat due to the recent reports of some snow still on the eastern face of the mountain. I ended up getting sidetracked at the TH and went counter-clockwise, starting with Bross > Lincoln > Cameron > Democrat, which was fine. It wasn't a particularly busy day except for descending Democrat in which there was more foot traffic towards the TH around 8:30-9am. Other than that, it was a great experience. TH road was in rough, rough shape. Any 2WD vehicle or low-clearance vehicle should be cautious about driving all the way up to Kite Lake. There are several opportunities to park further down which adds foot mileage but saves your vehicle.

Bross was steep at first, starting off with several switchbacks. However, with this hike, the TH is already at such a high elevation above the tree line, that it makes for a smooth and very capable loop to complete all four in one morning. Once I got to around 13,700-13,800' on Bross, the steepness started to slope down and the top was an interesting, small gravel-like rock at the top. Of these four, Lincoln was probably my favorite. After ascending Bross, I descended the saddle between Bross & Cameron, bypassing Cameron to Lincoln and knowcking that one out. Then, I went to Cameron and checked that one off, and finally Democrat.

Democrat and Lincoln had more scrambling sections of large rock at the top, creating some unique and fun hiking/climbing opportunities. Cameron and Bross on the other hand were relatively straightforward and like I already mentioned, had a small gravel-like rock at the top.

There's been recent posts about the condition of some of these trails on the loop and the poor shape they're in. CFI is currently working (and plans to continue) to make improvements. However, parts of the loop are private property which creates additional hoops and hurdles to work through with trying to maintain a good-conditioned trail.

I have gone both directions. Plan to return in a couple of weeks. Lincoln is also my favorite of the Kite Lake 14ers.
