There's really no need for another Grays/Torreys report, but whatever...
After my whole fiasco in Feb., I went back in May and skiied Dead Dog, but it was still winter up there, so no signs of my "trash". I went back this weekend after hibernating all summer long in Pennsylvania.
I arrived at the Bakerville TH Friday night. Warning: You may need a spaceship to get around the rut. No not really, but the only cars up top were larger SUV's, no subarus or anything. I ate and slept in the dirt next to my jeep.
I woke at 5:40 and hit the trail 10 minutes later.
Is this thing a pika?
Sunshine
The Ridge
There's sort of a trail. When I lost it, I just climbed up. Pretty straight forward. There's some spots that are a bit scary, but nothing bad.
Up up and away
This part was fun
The knife edge. I don't know how I took this picture. I just sorta side crawled across it while keeping my hands on the top. Got the blood flowing a tiny bit, but really not that bad. You can see an easier way around in the pic, right where the snow starts.
It didn't take long to get to DD. Once past the knife edge, I went across the top of DD and down the East Face.
Oh look!
Someone else found the other ski already.
It was not fun getting down to here.
I cut across horizontally to the standard route and ditched the ski and went to the summit.
Hello
I had the summit to myself.
OMG!
Descended the standard route and ran into the goat again. I was about 30 feet away. I didn't know if it would eat me or not so I went around.
Got down to the saddle and it was still early so I motored on up to Grays. Where there was about 30 people.
I started hiking down the standard route, and well you know how that goes...
Every group that I passed asked me where I was skiing. There was a ton of people, the only good thing about summer is the seasonal wildlife (girls in shorts). I got down to the bottom a little before twelve.
Successful Recovery Mission
No one will probally ever do this for fun, but heres the route I took.
What a nice day!
Well, of course something bad has to happen. I got down and my Jeep failed to start. It was turning but not kicking over. I checked all the fuses and relays and tried a bunch of other stuff. I gave up and sat around for an hour waiting for someone to come down. I was up the 4x4 road, so a tow from there would have cost a lot. Two kids came down and helped me push it out of the parking spot to the start of the hill. They were parked at the bottom, so they jumped in and we coasted down. There was one spot where we had to push it for about 100 feet. It was tough, plus Grays was their first 14er so I can't imagine how tired they were feeling. Thanks so much! We got going again and rolled down to the bottom. I called Braggs in Georgetown. They came and towed me out. My crankshaft position sensor ended up being shot. They got it fixed by 5 which was real nice. The mechanics are good, but they charge and absolutely ridiculous hourly labor fee. So I highly recomend never ever going there. At least get to a town where there's more than one shop.
Oh well.
Oh yeah, here's a pic from May.
And someothers for your viewing pleasure

That is indeed a pika, hard to get pictures of those little guys. Good job on the climb, and getting your gear back successfully! Sucks about the car, at least you got some help from those guys getting back from the 4WD TH.
I cannot believe that you were able to get your things! That‘s an interesting route that you took to get them too. Must feel like it‘s a done deal now. The last picture is the best!
You are well on your way to having the best trip report collection on this site. Keep up the good work. But why no pictures of the seasonal wildlife?
