Re: 2023 Goals
In April as a Packer fan I accomplished a goal of extreme endurance, watching the Drama King finally get traded to another team. This required more patience, stamina, and mental toughness than most 14er hikes I’ve completed.

Goal for this year: Longs/Meeker via the Loft-to-Keyhole loop. I have experience on lower elevations with Class 3 and Class 4 stuff along with route-finding, so hoping that translates to higher elevations.

2. 12er/13er/14er per month challenge - if i can get a peak in this month, i can finally start this (5 months in)

4. Complete two more segments of the CT
5. Two backpacking trips - Di severely undershot this one. got three on the books so far
6. Complete at least one peak in all of the major ranges
7. Improve yoga inversions - i was wishy washy about this one, too. would like to buckle down a bit this summer

Well, the year is about 2/3 over. I hope that you are all doing well with your goals.
June, July, and August were all good months for me, with the exception of rock towers. I still haven't gotten any. Does anyone want to do some?
Generic Goals for 2023
As of August 31:
Total Hiking, Climbing, and Canyoneering Days = 320-Currently at 239. I am ahead of schedule.
Total Days Hiking, Climbing, Canyoneering, and Biking Days = 350-Currently at 239. I am ahead of schedule.
Summits Climbed = 150-Currently at 139. I am ahead of schedule.
New Summits Climbed = 60-Currently at 69. The goal has been met, but I'll do more.
States to Climb Summits in = 6-Currently at 4. I am ahead on schedule.
Countries to Climb Summits in = 3-Currently at 2. I am scheduled for Chile/Argentina November and December.
Rock Towers/Technical Buttes = 10-Currently at 0. We attempted 1, but it was too icy to climb. Does anyone want to do some?
Technical Rock or Ice Routes = 30-Currently at 20. I am right on schedule.
Gym Climbing Days = 30-Currently at 2, but I'm not in a big hurry for this one.
Technical Canyons = 30-Currently at 1. I am ahead of schedule.
Biking Days = 30-Currently at 0, but I'm not in a big hurry for this one.
Lose Weight in lbs. = 20 (currently at 268)-Currently at 9 lbs. lost.
Plus this: Try not to get too riled up on people not knowing that calendar winter isn't a good definition of winter (even though it's the one used for official winter ascents) and people improperly identifying the Gore Range as well as people calling this extremely popular range "secret".
-Doing OK so far.
I'm going to call the below a Wish List, rather than a Goal. The reason is my Goal is to finish 50% of the below. It is extremely unlikely that I will finish all this, but my goal is 50%. Of course more will be added as the year goes on. As always, partners are welcome. (Gaps will be left every 50 to make it easier to reference while I'm updating).
As mentioned on a previous post, I am now working in Granby until Thanksgiving so several peaks in that area were added and I'm not going to make it to as many places closer to Grand Junction as I originally planned.

June, July, and August were all good months for me, with the exception of rock towers. I still haven't gotten any. Does anyone want to do some?
Generic Goals for 2023
As of August 31:
Total Hiking, Climbing, and Canyoneering Days = 320-Currently at 239. I am ahead of schedule.
Total Days Hiking, Climbing, Canyoneering, and Biking Days = 350-Currently at 239. I am ahead of schedule.
Summits Climbed = 150-Currently at 139. I am ahead of schedule.
New Summits Climbed = 60-Currently at 69. The goal has been met, but I'll do more.
States to Climb Summits in = 6-Currently at 4. I am ahead on schedule.
Countries to Climb Summits in = 3-Currently at 2. I am scheduled for Chile/Argentina November and December.
Rock Towers/Technical Buttes = 10-Currently at 0. We attempted 1, but it was too icy to climb. Does anyone want to do some?
Technical Rock or Ice Routes = 30-Currently at 20. I am right on schedule.
Gym Climbing Days = 30-Currently at 2, but I'm not in a big hurry for this one.
Technical Canyons = 30-Currently at 1. I am ahead of schedule.
Biking Days = 30-Currently at 0, but I'm not in a big hurry for this one.
Lose Weight in lbs. = 20 (currently at 268)-Currently at 9 lbs. lost.
Plus this: Try not to get too riled up on people not knowing that calendar winter isn't a good definition of winter (even though it's the one used for official winter ascents) and people improperly identifying the Gore Range as well as people calling this extremely popular range "secret".
-Doing OK so far.I'm going to call the below a Wish List, rather than a Goal. The reason is my Goal is to finish 50% of the below. It is extremely unlikely that I will finish all this, but my goal is 50%. Of course more will be added as the year goes on. As always, partners are welcome. (Gaps will be left every 50 to make it easier to reference while I'm updating).
As mentioned on a previous post, I am now working in Granby until Thanksgiving so several peaks in that area were added and I'm not going to make it to as many places closer to Grand Junction as I originally planned.

200 peaks is not happening this year lol, I'm only at 31. Goals 2-5 I haven't tried for, I haven't really focused on hiking this year. But, I did have a wonderful trip to New Mexico (Organ Mountains, some other random stuff) in February. In early May I completed the Great Sand Dunes trip referenced above, but 4 days later began a slide into a medical abyss, the onset of a mystery autoimmune disorder. I currently can't go up or down stairs without assistance, can't hike, climb, run at all, etc. Cycling is problematic but possible (an imbalance of power in the legs, freaks my wife out too). It's not a choice or pain tolerance issue, the nerves in my left leg just won't fully fire. Seven to eight painkillers a day which only cut the pain by 50% (and they aren't opioids, so I can't even get highTomPierce wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 2:19 pm 1) Climbing: I've been working on a climbing project, the ranked Colorado 5th class peaks list, off & on for years. So I'm now focused on knocking those 7 peaks off, which will require that I get back to 5.10 leading shape (ugh...but I've already started) and will also require a few prior recons to assess approaches, etc. A few of these peaks will be aid climbs, and while I'm so-so competent at aid, I need to brush up on those skills as well. A long way of saying that although there are only 7 key climbs, there will be lots of training climbs as well. A fun project for sure.
2) River stuff: I've committed to a trip down the Upper Colorado, about 60+ miles, probably in April/May. Might do a multi-day out to the Escalante in Utah, but that's not a high priority, might punt to 2024.
3) Various trips: I really want to camp in the Great Sand Dunes in May for a meteor shower. Might do a couple "mystery" overnighters, e.g. trying to find the mystery 4th class route on West Eolus, then drop into NY Basin for Peak 16. Another mystery is a peak rated either 4th class or 5.6. Huh? I also want to climb Peak L in the Gore with a buddy, I dropped the ball on that one last summer.
