HI!
It's about that time to make an official announcement on our project coming up in one week. It never gets easier for us to post about these attempts because we have a serious fear of failure and letting our crew, and everyone who has invested their energy and time into this, down. We like to finish what we say we are going to set out to do but as a number of you know, that isn't always the case. So we announce our project with the pre warning that if EVERYTHING goes right, we have a 50% chance of success.
Andrea Sansone and myself (Andrew Hamilton) are headed out on Tuesday morning to catch the train in Durango (assuming the rock slide clears) and head into the Chicago Basin for a start time of 0400 (subject to change) on Wednesday to attempt to establish the Co-Ed Colorado 14er Record as a couple.
We have talked back and forth how we should put this project together, does Andrea go alone? Do we go together? Do we bag it, and not go at all? As we have been through so many obstacles over the past year and a half and have a constant stream of ailments that make this undertaking seem impossible.
But here we are, we still want to try, because I'm getting old, and Andrea seems to always be injured. We are scared but this past June we have put in the work and scouted many of the peaks we needed to brush up on, and we have trained hard. Maybe, by some miracle we can sneak by with success.
There have been an overwhelming amount of people behind us on this project and our entire crew are as follows:
Dan Hobbs - Driver/logistics
Forrest Hobbs - Driver
Jon Mollman-4WDriver/logistics
Laura Hamilton - Food/logistics
David Koepke - Food/logistics
Megan Saul - Gear and Social Media (she will be posting here and on our instagram account @A2Summit)
Randy Phillips-Gear
Lauren/Nicole (Andrea's sisters flying in from the east coast will be assisting Randy and Megan, emotional support, and Nicole will be available for medical council)
Chris Muesser- PT
Riley Hanlon-Video/Photography
I know the burning question that will come up many times if it is not addressed now, YES we have received permission to climb and summit all of the private 14ers, Mt. Lindsey included, thanks to Andrea who is a hell of a communicator, because if it was left up to me, we would be skipping the problem peaks! We have proof of permission and have provided that proof to all those necessary. Andrea is no one special, she just is a pain in the ass and doesn't take no for an answer, and somehow, it all gets done. I sure am thankful for her persistence!

"I get scared sometimes—lots of times—but it's not bad. You know? I feel close to myself. When I'm out there at night, I feel close to my own body, I can feel my blood moving, my skin and my fingernails, everything, it's like I'm full of electricity and I'm glowing in the dark—I'm on fire almost—I'm burning away into nothing—but it doesn't matter because I know exactly who I am." from The Things They Carried

Very exciting! Will be following along. Since the 14er Speed Record is relatively unique and this is the first multi-person attempt in recent memory, I'm curious about a couple logistical points:
Obviously you two will start at the same place / same time in Chicago Basin, and the clock will stop when you both reach 3000' below Longs, but will you also be standing on every summit concurrently? Or if one of you is grooving, will they be allowed to boogie ahead and e.g. start sourcing water somewhere, etc? Or will you go one step further and each be standing at the 3000' mark below each summit at the same time?

Re: Co-Ed 14er Record Attempt 2024
hey! we generally stay together. We have done 2 Nolans together and yeah maybe one of us is 20 feet ahead or so, but we are generally getting water together and hiking together. We don't need to push our summit buttons together, but we are always on top of the peaks together and will start and stop our trackers at the same time.Eli Watson wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 5:07 pm Very exciting!
