You should finish up! So close! What have you got left?Jim Davies wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 7:16 am As a sports fan, I have to say this is a highlight of the summer! You'll be going concurrently with the Tour de France... Good luck!

I'll be travelling starting four days into your run but think I'll be able to keep up, albeit not at the blue triangle refresh rate. I'll keep the spreadsheet and post it, hopefully, daily. If you don't want to reveal your plan, no problem, but are you taking the same path as 2015 FKT?andrewhamilton wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:28 amGlen! We are hoping for you to unofficially be the statistics master. Are you going to be around during that time frame?

Also, to everyone following and leaving comments. I want you to know that makes a big difference when we are out there. We don't have time to follow along closely when its go time, but I remember in 2015 people would give me updates on all the comments that were coming in, and it really makes a difference in keeping me thinking positive. Anytime I hear about people who were inspired to give a little more in a workout, or who got up in the middle of the night to check on us, or something like that, it gives us a little boost. So anyway we do appreciate your participation here.

Its pretty darn close but yeah there are a few variations in our plan A. The basic path through the state is the same as always, but some of the ordering will probably be different. We also have some last minute calls in terms of ordering that will be affected by our times/snow levels, etc.glenmiz wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:35 amI'll be travelling starting four days into your run but think I'll be able to keep up, albeit not at the blue triangle refresh rate. Nothing better than 14er fkt season. Best of luck on this adventure to both of you!

@Andrew, with bringing up snow levels, I am curious what caused you two to pick start of July vs mid-late July for potentially more snow melt? I assume logistics of people being able to help, thunder storms more often later in the month(?), and access for private mountains?andrewhamilton wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:52 amIts pretty darn close but yeah there are a few variations in our plan A. Will be following along. Hoping for a safe journey, your bodies holding up and cooperative weather. My wife, MountianHikette & I, met in 1995 and finished her first lap of the fourteeners in 2001. It's a special thing, doing all the fourteeners together. For us mere mortals, doing them over multiple years is a significant challenge and tends to provide a lot of adventure stories. I can't imagine how tough it must have been to complete them in less than 10 days! However this plays out, you two will be accomplishing something way beyond the capability of most. Stay safe, This will always be part of your bond to each other.

Re: Co-Ed 14er Record Attempt 2024
Hey well you know it is always a gamble. All winter we can follow the Snotel graphs for Colorado to see what the snowpack will look like, but something that is interesting is that there aren't really any snotel sites above 12000 feet. So for example it looks like the San Juans have been dry for weeks, but actually above 12,000 feet that snow is lingering. Same thing happened back in 2014 and 2015, both of those years look kind of average on snotel but they had monster springs that left a lot of snow up high.Briere wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 9:11 am

Some of the pros for starting early are lots of available water, lots of sunlight, and maybe beat monsoon season. Getting caught up in an electrical storm is pretty terrifying so we usually go with the odds and try to pick a date that has us finished up by mid July. But honestly the monsoons seem so unpredictable anymore its all just a gamble. Last year late July was dry and monsoon free for the most part. What is difficult is that once you pick a start date, you basically have no flexibility because of train schedules, Culebra passes, etc. So one poorly timed rockslide closing off some access and its all over.
In 1999 I started on August 30, and the first week it snowed every day. And in 2021 on the Centennials, I was basically caught all night in a winter blizzard on July 1st. So I don't know I guess it just depends on the mood of the mountain gods
