Hey everyone! Not sure if anyone else has ever wished they knew who else was climbing the same 14er on a given day. I usually go solo but have had a few hikes where I ended up teaming up with someone mid-trail and it totally made my day.
I built a simple little tool that lets you “check in” to a trail and see if anyone else is planning to be out there the same day. You stay anonymous unless you both decide to connect and share contact info. Just something I made for myself after one too many solo hikes with no one to chat with
If that’s something you’d use, give it a go here: hiking-herd.replit.app

Would love any feedback!
There are a lot of Facebook 14er groups where you could find a hiking partner.
It's not a bad idea, per se, and the intention is good. But I think my hang-up is it goes against the conventional wisdom of meeting partners in advance of a hike/climb for safety purposes. For that reason, I feel conflicted about the availability of such a tool, but as with all things it's about how we, individuals, use it.
To me, it's still ideal for safety purposes to seek out partners ahead of time. Obviously, this spot here on the forum is good for that. The 14ers.com Facebook group is great for that, and the Colorado 14er Ladies Facebook group is awesome for gals that specifically want to partner up with other gals.
