A lot of good picks here. "Cliffhanger" has that scene where Sly self-arrests with a villain's face. :!: They don't teach that at the gym.

An oldie that stands up surprisingly well: "The Mountain" (1956) with Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner mis-cast as brothers, but the climbing and scenery work pretty well, good enough to give me some shivers.

The cars, hair, and the Coleman Glacier were all bigger back then.
ironically, the big cars and big hair of the 70s are partly responsible for the smaller glaciers of today.

actually - they are fairly small mountains by our standards --- but my newest favorite movie Under the Silver Lake does incorporate the landscape into the movie very effectively.

Specifically the Griffin Observatory and Mount Hollywood

so much so that the two landmarks are often in shots in the background in other parts of the movie!

The list is very long, LOR trilogy came to mind for me (as mentioned), especially given the OP's moniker. I also like to tune into the Deer Hunter when on when they are getting to the North Cascade scenes. I think Mt. Shuksan is seen at the hunting camp scene if memory serves. Movies with mountains I have enjoyed recently include Edie, Braveheart and The Dark Divide.

Someone already mentioned K2, probably the most realistic portrait of climbers on an expedition and how they sometimes are behaving badly.

Jeremiah Johnson - lots of winter scenes in the mountains of Utah (Robert Redford territory).

Terrible movie - and it allegedly takes place in montana but was shot in new zealand.
Unless the "diss" was purely location based, you may have omitted the objection.

I rather enjoyed it, but will leave out my reasoning in a spirit of camaraderie.

Is Factory Butte a "mountain"?

Is this really my favorite movie?

No, and no. But still, maybe fun for someone.

Avalanche Sharks was clearly inspired by the Slide-Rock Bolter: https://cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/Slide-Rock_Bolter
