Awesome images!
I just missed it, too, left Kona 3/4 p.m. :(
When we were exploring Volcanoes Nat'l Park, there was alot of booming and fizzling from the Kilauea Caldera steam vents.
There is something about the power of volcanoes that gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes. I am in awe.
That and green sea turtles!
What a land of stark and severe contrasts the Big Island of Hawai'i is.
Thanks for posting!

Active flow volcanism has been going on continually at Kilauea for over 25 years. What an outdoor laboratory to observe and record this activity.

This is the same process that built Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea to their great heights (recent threats and photos at 14ers.com).

There's a certain amount of trolling and spamming, did not know that there have been threats also.

I hiked around Volcano Nat'l Park a few years ago. The main thing I remember was the lava and the extreme burning in my eyes after I got showered with sulfur dioxide filled raindrops. Take goggles if there's any chance of rain. :)
I'm just pretending to be a poseur.
