Easy Couloirs

Post by Sglm14 »

Hi all-

Any suggestions for some easy couloirs? I've done Cristo 3x in the last two years and Angel once. Still consider myself a newbie to couloirs so I don't want to try the really hard ones yet. Thanks! Happy Easter!

The Boudoir on Horseshoe is mellow and fun. In general, the Mosquito/Tenmile area is a good place to go couloir hunting thanks to the short approaches. The Refrigerator on Ice is also nice, though the approach is a bit more of a slog. If you don't mind long-ish approaches, there's also a nice couloir between Pagoda and Chief's Head in RMNP.

Conundrum Couloir.

It's just steep enough to be exciting, but a relatively safe runout in event of a slip. But mind the cornice.

(Don't know current conditions however, I'm currently on the West Coast)

The north couloir on Castle is pretty mellow. The Lackawanna Couloir is fairly mellow as well.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Lost Rat on Grays. Boudoir on Horseshoe. V Couloir on Atlantic. All were some of my first ones.

Thanks so much everyone!! I think I will try Boudoir. It sounds fun and easy enough to do. I will also get a book on snow climbs since I really want to start doing more.

I did Boudoir last weekend. Feel free to check it out yourself, but snow was not consolidated for a fair amount of it. Just a heads up.
