I'm doing the Audi Power of Four Trail Run in Aspen on August 6th and wondering if anyone has done this in the past.
I have no chance of winning so I'll just be going for the finish. It looks like you can average just under 3 MPH and still finish before the deadline.
Since you are going over the four mountains of Aspen throughout the day it seems like there would be a high probability of it being shut down due to lightning...

Re: Aspen 50K race advice
Typically on those races, the long cut off pace is there to allow you to shelter down during bad weather. That's one of the reasons for the extra time in the hardrock 100. I just did my first 50k a month back and I was like you, just going for the finish. There won't be officials along the course to pull people off in case of bad weather. You'll need to make your own weather call.

Power hike any part of the trail that's heading upwards.
Don't take too long at the aid stations.
Don't forget to eat and drink.
Thank your aid station volunteers.
You'll do great.

Re: Aspen 50K race advice
I did the race last year and it was a blast...and brutal at the same time. My advice would also be to walk any ups because they keep going and going. The aid stations were stocked with lots of good stuff and the volunteers were great. I would highly recommend this race.

Re: Aspen 50K race advice
I like to use my own rule that if I'm walking (every uphill) then I'm trying to eat or drink. I'll second Justin on not staying too long at the aid stations. Fill your hands and put some in your pack but keep walking and don't sit down at the station.

Re: Aspen 50K race advice
Did anyone do this with poles? If there are steep enough sections I might like to have mine. I can always tell a HUGE difference when hiking uphill with poles.camocreation wrote:I did the race last year and it was a blast...and brutal at the same time. I've never done it... but my advice would be: Don't do it.
