Dead Dog on 3-22?
Checking in to see if anyone is interested in skiing Dead Dog on Torreys with the warm weather on Thursday 3-22-18. Plan is to be on summit of Torreys early (~9AM) and wait for things to get perfect. Will most likely be camping at winter trailhead or summer trailhead the night before.

Do you have much confidence that the snowpack in Dead Dog has gone "spring" yet? I'd be surprised if it has...

This is a good point.SkaredShtles wrote:Do you have much confidence that the snowpack in Dead Dog has gone "spring" yet? I'd be surprised if it has...
I skied it last year in mid-April and it was still pretty weird conditions. Probably a little early for “perfect” conditions.

I actually haven't been up Steven's Gulch in a while. Skied other nearby lines with similar aspects, lower elevation, and lower temps for the high with good spring snow. You bring a good point but I would also be willing to bet that spring conditions will be here sooner than last year and will have a shorter duration. Something I need to think about/poke around with more.

not sure how the divide fared from this most recent snow (19-20th) but there was almost a foot of new snow on an east aspect in summit county at ~12500 . Personally, I'd be a little hesitant to get on something like dead dog with that much new snow
