Double Amputee Successfully Climbs Everest

Post by painless4u2 »

He's 69 years old, a double amputee (both legs), a cancer survivor, and just successfully climbed Everest. I don't think I'll complain about my age or aches and pains anymore.

Totally incredible.

If this sort of thing inspires you, the Enormocast just did a podcast on Hugh Herr. He lost both his legs to complications with frost bike/exposure to the elements, and went on to build and design prosthetics at MIT:

His TED talk is amazing,

Pretty incredible! I love seeing people work past their limitations. Thanks for sharing these links. I'm going to share them with my students today. Last night I got to meet Ed Webster who got back to rock climbing after losing 8 finger tips to frostbite he got on Everest. Seeing people put their determination into moving forward is a true testament to the human spirit.

Makes me think that maybe I am not too old nor infirm to climb the rest of the 14ers, or perhaps even the centennials.

None of us have any excuses! Great!!! :-D
The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge and time to prepare. The summit, by virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. Yet to share these moments with friends is to be human. C. Anker
