I'll be in the bay area 3/18-3/20 looking for something fun to do. I might ski, I might look for something to climb. I wonder if anyone has any recommendations. I can bring winter mountaineering gear but it'll be cheaper to bring less luggage if there are good scrambles at relatively low elevations with summer conditions, if that's a thing in that part of the country (:
Also I wouldn't mind some company!

I would go to Big Sur, there are numerous great hikes there, I have done a handful of them.

Mt Tamalpias Beach to Summit hike, 16 miles, 3,500 feet.
Quintessential central California hike.

Most of the suggestions in this thread require access to a rental car. However there is a lot one can do with public transportation. I lived there over a decade and climbed a lot stuff without a car.

Muir Woods is actually a nice walk too....and to your point you'll have plenty of company there! If you've never been to the San Fran area walking across the Golden gate bridge and seeing the park there is pretty cool too.

Much respect! I do have a rental car though and am willing to put myself out to get to something more technically challenging (:

Big Sur may Still be inaccessible then due to flood damage. Most of Los Padres National Forest is closed until March 14, while they evaluate the flood damage and decide what roads and trails are safe to open.
