lightning forecast app
What's your favorite lightning forecast app and how do you interpret it for go/no-go decisions? I've been using mountain forecast but recently found open summit, which looks like a good option.

Re: lightning forecast app
SpotWX is pretty decent and accurate: https://spotwx.com/ I mostly use the NAM 3.5 day and GFS 10 day forecasts after pin-pointing the location of interest on the map. Then once within the Precipitation and Clouds graph, lightning bolts will appear if forecasted. I think those mostly show up in the shorter term forecasts. Give it a try.ClimbingFool wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 10:09 am What's your favorite lightning forecast app and how do you interpret it for go/no-go decisions? Re: lightning forecast app
in my experience, opensummit is really good at giving a "worst case scenario" and isnt actually that accurate.ClimbingFool wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 10:09 am What's your favorite lightning forecast app and how do you interpret it for go/no-go decisions? Re: lightning forecast app
SpotWX looks quite helpful. I tried to use NOAA but feel like I'm missing something. Could you post a link to one of the mountain forecasts using NOAA so I know what I should be looking for?

Re: lightning forecast app
Just go to the peak forecast link on this site and scroll way down towards the bottom until you see Hourly Weather Forecast. Click on that and it brings up the hourly chart of wind/rain/lightning/etc.ClimbingFool wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 8:17 pm SpotWX looks quite helpful.
